The Fathoms Plus Trap story begins with John L Tarantino Senior, a first generation Italian American, San Diego native, Tuna fisherman, seafood restaurant owner, and shellfish trap company owner. Using the Fathoms Plus Trap to bring shrimp to his namesake restaurant tables, John used the boat "Trapper" to haul in San Diego's own local shrimp. Improving on the original design John incorporated modifications to allow use with multiple species (shrimp, crab, lobster and more), and reinforced areas to customize for government required escape ports. This endevor was so successful that demand to sell the Fathoms Plus Trap world wide became a second business. Since our opening in 1978 we have truly sold world wide; Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Canada, Australia, Samoa, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Russia, Japan, Oman... the list goes on.
